SA: Business taxes costing jobs in SA says the opposition
The South Australian opposition has claimed high taxes are costing jobs in the state.
Opposition deputy leader VICKI CHAPMAN says a report from the Institute of Public Affairs
rates SA second behind NSW as the worst in the nation for business taxes.
Ms CHAPMAN says the IPA report comes after the Commonwealth Grants Commission rated
South Australia the highest taxing state.
She says next year will be a major struggle for businesses to keep staff and the government's
addiction to increasing taxes will mean fewer jobs for those who need them most.
But Premier MIKE RANN says the IPA report wouldn't have taken into account the latest
cuts to payroll tax.
Mr RANN's told ABC radio it's also important to keep the balance between revenue and
expenditure needs to help provide extra funding for health and to employ more doctors
.. nurses and police.
But Ms CHAPMAN says the IPA report shows tax reform in South Australia is a must.
